Travel Bursary Support Announcement and Criteria – World Potato Congress – 13th event hosted by Kenya

The World Potato Congress Inc, (WPC) is a committed partner with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to help achieve the common goal of improving food security and nutrition for all; to find new and better ways to promote sustainable agriculture; and to achieve multiple Sustainable Development Goals.

The WPC Inc. looks to support these aims and to provide a voice for development projects. Grant support will be provided for a minimum of twenty delegates from Asia, South America, and Africa to attend the World Potato Congress in Naivasha, Kenya in October 2026. The WPC Inc. continues to approach potential funders who might support additional travel bursaries and as such, there is a potential for more than twenty.

This is the premier potato Congress with representatives from business, science, and development sectors. The grant covers the Congress registration fee (not including the gala dinner or post-Congress tours) and the following additional support is provided:

East African countries
CDN $500.00 travel bursary plus 4 nights accommodation valued at CDN $200.00

Rest of the World
CDN $1000 travel bursary (supporting airfare) plus 4 nights accommodation valued at CDN $200.00 total.

  • This bursary will be paid within 40 days after the Congress.
  • Written Submission (google form) is mandatory.
  • Optional to also compete in the Video submission competition with the written submission. Video competition winners will receive additional funding with guidelines found on our WPC website.

Potential candidates must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Be part of the development sector or able to represent and articulate the development aspects of the project or initiative they are involved in- they must be a voice for the local community.
  • Be actively engaged in a potato-based project that demonstrates aspects such as:
    • Food systems approach
    • Benefits of partnership (development, business, research) at work
    • Best practices
    • Impact on households and communities
  • Be a key person / agent of change involved in the project/initiative.
  • Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Be in an organization engaged in development, research, or an enterprise.
  • Be in an organization that could not afford to attend WPC without support.
  • Have a basic understanding of English as there is no simultaneous translation at the Congress.
  • Be prepared to provide an A0 sized poster for display at WPC.
  • Cover their transportation or flight and visa application costs to Naivasha, Kenya.
