The World Potato Congress Inc. is pleased to present the Webinar: The National Potato Program and its Contribution to Potato Industry Advancement in China” by Jin Liping, April 3, 2024 at 8:00 am Eastern Standard Time (USA/Canada).

Presentation Outline:

Potato plays a pivotal role in ensuring China’s food security, poverty alleviation, rural revitalization, and promotion of healthy nutrition consumption. This presentation aims to provide an overview of the current state of potato production and industry development in China, as well as elucidate how the national potato program organizes and implements research and development initiatives to address technical challenges faced by the industry. By offering technical support for the advancement of the potato sector, this program contributes significantly towards its growth.

JIN Liping (Ms), Ph.D, Professor of Institute of Vegetables and Flowers of Chinese Academy of Agriculture SciencesCAAS

Prof. Jin has been working in potato genetics and breeding and virus-free seed potato multiplication technology since 1987. She was the first chief scientist of the Potato Breeding and Cultivation Innovation Team of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Innovation Project. She has succeeded in the development of more than 30 new potato varieties, which are now widely cultivated in China. For a long time, she has organized national potato research, and contributed to poverty alleviation through technology in China. Since 2008, she has served as the Chief Scientist of China Agriculture Research System-Potato under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. She also serves as the Chairperson of the Potato Committee of the Crop Science Society of China, the Chairperson of the Root and Tuber Crops Committee of the China Rural Special Technology Association.

Prof. Jin is a recipient of the 2nd Class Prize of State Scientific and Technological Progress Award of China, the National Poverty Alleviation Innovation Award of China, and the National Innovation Excellence Medal of China.
