WPC 2026 – Highlights From the Opening Day!

After months of preparations, the doors opened today officially for the 13th World Potato Congress on the shores of Lake Naivasha, Kenya. The energy was electric. From the first handshake to the last session of the day, the 13th World Potato Congress made it clear that this is the place to be for anyone who works in this industry. Delegates streamed in from almost 70 countries, trading ideas, forging partnerships and sealing the kind of connections that don’t happen over a video call.
Conversations that began in the registration queue were already turning into collaborations by lunch. If you weren’t in the room, someone you know was, and they’re not going to stop talking about it.
World Potato Congress Board of Directors and International Advisors In-Person Meeting

The World Potato Congress Inc. Board of Directors was pleased to have eight of it’s ten Directors and eight of the nine International Advisors come to Kenya for an in-person meeting on Sunday. A full run of the program for the Congress week was presented as we prepared to support the hosts in what will be a Congress to remember.
Global Thematic Workshops-
Sold out/At Capacity!
As part of its strategic initiatives, and acting upon recommendations from delegates of prior Congresses, the World Potato Congress has established a structured platform for ongoing collaboration on key topics during and between Congresses. This platform is designed to deepen WPC’s impact in mission-aligned areas and to connect stakeholders around shared priorities. Building on these discussions, beginning with the Kenya Congress, the day prior to each Congress will be dedicated to focused dialogue through Thematic Group Workshops.
These workshops, included as optional in the registration process, were well received, with all rooms at capacity days to weeks before the workshops were held today.
Thank you to all our Workshop Chairs and Co-Chairs for your work and leadership. Stay tuned as we start to build on this conversation through on-line collaboration. More information can be found here: https://wpc2026kenya.com/wpc-2026-thematic-workshops/

Pleasant Surprises from Mother Nature!
And just when delegates thought the day couldn’t get any better, the wild joined the party. Guests have noticed a few giraffes sauntering by, while vervet and colobus monkeys swung through the trees, putting on a show no conference programme could ever schedule. Where else can you debate the future of global food security and this close to some of natures most amazing creatures.
This is the magic of Naivasha: world-class business and breathtaking nature, side by side. Day one is in the books, and it was unforgettable. The congress continues, the momentum is building, and the best is still ahead.
